Après avoir travaillé régulièrement avec le label Arion, la Maison des Cultures du Monde (MCM) créé son propre label en 1985, sous la direction de Françoise Gründ. La politique est d’abord celle de garder une trace des concerts programmés sur la scène de la Maison des Cultures du Monde. Les musiciens sont enregistrés pendant ou après le spectacle. Les débuts, sur LP, seront d’emblée remarqués par les amateurs ; on y découvrait les traditions d’Asie Centrale, Russie, Sibérie, mais également un LP étonnant (présent dans les collections de la Médiathèque) consacré à certaines ethnies du Nagaland en Inde.
Une fenêtre sur le monde des musiques traditionnelles !
La collection de disques INEDIT s’attache à promouvoir avec passion des traditions musicales menacées ou méconnues et des artistes soucieux de défendre leur culture. Qu’il s’agisse d’enregistrements de terrain, de captations de concerts ou d’anthologies patrimoniales, chaque disque est conçu pour satisfaire l’amateur en quête d’émotions nouvelles comme le mélomane le plus exigeant. Ce souci de qualité artistique et de rigueur éditoriale a valu à la collection plus de 200 récompenses. Prolongement indispensable des activités de la Maison des Cultures du Monde, INEDIT constitue non seulement une source d’enrichissement culturel et musical mais aussi une somme d’archives sonores qui permet d’écouter de grands artistes disparus. Les notices qui accompagnent chaque CD sont rédigées en français et en anglais par des spécialistes connaissant bien les traditions musicales présentées, et comprennent également des traductions des textes des chants et des photographies. Ce catalogue propose un témoignage de ce que les cultures du monde ont de meilleur à offrir dans le domaine des musiques de traditions savante et populaire.
